How it works

How It Works

Anyone can buy and sell on Bookflow. The first step is to sign up for an account.

Buyers: Sign up and start shopping! Use the search bar and shopping filters to narrow down your search.

Sellers: Sign up and click "Post a new listing". Choose which Category (Books or Supplies), fill out the listing fields and upload photos, then click "Post listing". Make sure to enter your bank account information so you can collect payments. Your account information is only used by Stripe to process transactions and is never visible to Bookflow.

Payments

It's free to sign up and list items on Bookflow. The only fee is a 10% commission once an item sells, which includes the Stripe transaction fee. The seller will receive the total sales price minus the commission fee. Please allow about seven (7) days for funds to transfer to your bank account.

Shipping

When creating a listing, sellers can choose Shipping, Pickup, or both. If choosing Shipping, sellers can set a shipping fee (which can also be $0 to offer free shipping).

Many items for sale on Bookflow will be eligible for USPS Media Mail. If your item is eligible, we recommend using Media Mail as one of the most affordable shipping methods.

Breakdown of the Sale Process

Here is a detailed walkthrough of the buying and selling process. This is to let you know what to expect - you'll receive email notifications every step of the way!

1. Buyer clicks "buy" on a listing and completes payment via credit/debit card.
2. A notification is sent to the Seller to approve the sale.
3. Seller approves the sale. Seller should always accept and close the listing, unless seller is selling multiples of the same item.
4. Seller promptly ships item and messages Buyer with tracking information on the sale page.
5. Buyer receives and inspects item and marks complete on sale page.
6. Once marked received/complete by the buyer, the payment is released to the Seller.

To ensure that you have a successful selling experience, we kindly ask that you take note of the following guidelines:

1. Provide a comprehensive description of your item for sale, including all pertinent details.
2. Please be transparent about the product's condition.
3. Be available to address any inquiries your potential buyers may have.
4. We suggest shipping your items within 24-48 hours of purchase.
5. If you choose not to use media mail, please be aware of the item's weight when charging for shipping. You can estimate shipping costs using a kitchen scale.
6. Lastly, be sure to take excellent photographs of your items to showcase their quality and appeal.

Tips for listing photos:
Use good lighting: Use natural light or a bright lamp to ensure that your photos are clear and well-lit. Avoid using flash, which can create harsh shadows.

Use a plain background: Use a plain white or neutral background to keep the focus on your book. Avoid using busy or distracting backgrounds.

Keep the items straight: Make sure that the items are straight and not slanted in any of your photos. This will help to make the items look more appealing to potential buyers.
